Odyssey of the Mind

Odyssey of the Mind is a creative, problem solving activity that fosters teamwork, public speaking, recycling and an understanding of the importance of budgeting and time management.  Students in grades K-12 are encouraged to participate in this activity.  The activity is focused on educating students so that they understand that each and every individual has a strength or talent.  Once students are aware of their strengths, they collaborate and create a solution to a problem that is given by the Odyssey of the Mind organization.  Each year, five problems are submitted to teams around the world.  Each team creates their own solution and come together for the competition at a chosen country in Europe and/or The World Finals in the USA.  The competition is exciting and educational, and students meet other students from 800 schools around the world.  In the past five years, the Togo team has been the only team representing the continent of Africa.  The team competed in the USA and returned as an Odyssey banner winner in 2011, 2014, and 2015. The team also participated in the Eurofest competition in Germany in 2012 and 2013.

In 2011, the Odyssey team held a fashion show for fundraising purposes. Team members designed various outfits made of recycled materials such as balloons, Calypo drink boxes, safety pins, and other reusable materials.
